Concept art

I have finished this piece of concept art. I am really proud of this. It has taken a long time to finish and draw.
I also tried a new way of colouring this art work. I used a brush tool but changed the transparency and layered the shades/glows to be lighter or thicker. This is how I achieved the paint-like effect, but digitally.

I could use this work I have as a poster page for my comic or to improve the variety of pieces I have when presenting my work in the upcoming exhibition.

Music I made with my sister Trinity Hayes

My sister was a Music Student during NCEA level 1 to 3.
She knows her stuff, so I asked to to help me create a cute playful and never-ending tune for my animation and for my characters. I then made the music:
I loved this cute tune, so I then helped her come up with the new idea for a full version of the tune we had made. With lots of room to add to the music, this is what we came up with together. This is our tune that we made, copyrights to my sister Trinity Hayes.
I like the tune. I will make more music to use in my animatics and other things I make.

Gabranth Shadowend's Biography
General

Name: Gabranth Shadowend
Gender: Male
DOB: 6th July. 68 years old
Type: Human
Height: 1.75 m
Weight: 94.8 kg

Characteristics:
Slick grey hair
Green eyes
Impressive eyebrows
Wrinkles in his forehead
Tidy moustache and goatee

Personality:
Grumpy
Serious
Traditional
Intimidating

Family: With a deceased wife and ever-haunting death of his one and only child at the age of six years old, Gabranth hates others' happiness when thinking of his own unhappiness.

Driven by frustration and grief, he adopted Silver Jewel as his foster child, only to force Silver to be a personal slave. Seeing Silver’s sadness lets Gabranth feel better about himself.

Childhood: Growing up and living a normal, simple life, Gabranth Shadowend loved to enjoy the simple things in life. Always loving and respecting the Victorian times, he often incorporated a traditional lifestyle inspired by the Victorian ways. But when his wife died at a young age, Gabranth promised to look after their lovely child by himself at the age of 45. Tragedy struck and his only love and joy in life died of brain cancer at the age of six, with Gabranth being 49. His grief led to having hatred towards anyone’s happiness and joy. He was introduced to the idea of adopting Silver Jewel by a newspaper ad of a child with a sweet, caring voice and nature. He then went ahead and adopted Silver at age of 56. He wanted to make Silver feel the way he felt so he swore Silver to be forever mute and forced Silver to be his personal servant to do his every biding. Gabranth felt better having Silver around.

His little twisted happiness soon disappeared once again when Silver Jewel ran away from home when Gabranth was 67. Outraged and desperate, Gabranth still hunts to take back the joy he felt having Silver as his personal servant until this day. He will not stop until he finds Silver once more.

Storyboard class brief

This is the last day of Storyboard class. Here is a summery on what I achieved in this class

The Class Tasks;
Learning Storyboard Pro
I was introduced to the amazing program called Storyboard Pro. It took me a while to get the grips on how to use the program, and I was unsure about drawing on it at first, but as I had to use it more and more, I got the idea. With this program, I learned how to split panels, to change the camera angles by zooming in or outwards. The drawing aspect was a lot like Photoshop, but I could animate some panels. There is so much I could say more an what I have learned but I will move on.

I would recommend using this program for any kind of animation of any sort. It's just amazing.

Script Writing
I found this part hard to start to do. Once I got started, it was hard to stop. I am happy with the story I made, and I am happy for my reader writer for helping me correct my grammar and spelling. I found it fun to image the story on what it could look like an animation in my head. It was good for me to learn how to set out the script writing professionally.

Voice actors and sound effects
It was hard to get voice actors but really fun to create the music and sound effects. I created my own music with my sister to get my own unique music. Once I got the voice actors I was all good. I am yet to learn the programs my tutor used but its OK.

Drawing the animatic
This took the longest time. I was hard to just keep drawing and I did it. Once I had the drawings done, I was set. But getting them done took a lot of discipline and energy to do. I did find that when I was finished the drawings and doing camera angles and timing, others were still drawing.

Self Evaluation;
Time management
I made sure to use a lot of my own time to do the work I needed to do. During the entire class, I did most of my work in my own time, well still using the set time giving in class to work. I had very good time management skills in this class.

At the start of this new assignment, I told myself I would try harder to use my time wiser. I did. I avoided the mistake I made on the last assignment by not checking what was due and when. I knew what was due, when I should get it done by, and how (due to class time).

Blogging
I was very bad at blogging about what I was doing and when. I am updating my blog now, but I should have been updating it as I was learning new things. Because it is now a much larger task to try to state what I have learned all at once. Next time, I will put more effort into blogging about struggles or trials I had over came and how. I was to caught up with doing the project instead of documenting what I was doing.

What I am proud of
I am very proud of my animatic. I can see how doing all those extra hours in my spare time was worth it. I am motivated to continue working in my own spare time with all my assignments now because of how well this went. I like the sound effects I have in the animatic and I like how nice the drawings are in it. I am also proud of my time management skills

What I need to improve on
I should improve my time spent on blogging. I didn't really do any of it until now which is a let down. I will improve this by next semester.

I will miss this class and I am happy what what I have learned and achieved. Goodbye BSA125.

New Software

I have gotten permission to download Toon Boom Harmony and Toon Boom Storyboard on my mum's laptop.

This means I can finally work on important homework at home instead of rushing to town to work in the spare time I have. Mum is also going to buy a $100 mini drawing tablet to connect to the laptop. I am excited. My life got a whole lot more easier.

The next task will be to install Photoshop on the laptop

Thumb-nailing, first copy

I have drawn the paper copies of the thumb-nailing to my animatic story, Pharmacist Trouble
(Waning, these images when scanned were bad quality. Please hang in there)
I have uploaded these images onto ToomBoom Storyboard. My next move is to draw a cleaner, nicer version for my animatic.

More random drawing's

I drew work with both Silver and Oliver together
I have drawn, and coloured Oliver along side Silver Jewel. I can now see that Oliver has a orange base colour senescence, the opposite to Silver's colour senescence blue. I did this by accident, but it shows how these two people are in fact opposite to each other. One being intelligent, bold, confident, and serious, and the other being naive, shy, passive, and playful. Oliver's expression is perfect. He doesn't even want to associate with Silver being beside him and does not look his way. Silver on the other hand, is looking shyly at the viewer.

I drew them on an angle to have a dynamic feel, along with a more interesting/dramatic shot. I would prefer it if I had drawn their head smaller. I feel happy about this drawing. My next drawing will show some of Silver's hidden playfulness and also some of Oliver's frustration with Silver's games. Here is the starting sketches of this art work.
I'm not sure about Oliver's footing or how his hand reaches for Silver. Thank you for reading

Different ways to colour

I did a drawing on paper and decided to experiment with different ways to colour it

This is the base, pencil sketch of the drawing. I didn't know how I should colour it so I photocopied it and colored, shaded, and inked the drawing. First I outlines/inked the lines.

I thought that this was a good start, but I wanted to show that his face was not flat. I wanted to shade and shape his face a lot more than this. So next I shaded his shape with a pencil.
I was very happy how I could see the depth in his face, and get a small idea on the different colours darkness and how they contrast with his pale skin. But I then wanted to see his colour. His bright and shining eyes and silver hair. The very aspects that make him very unique.
I really like this. I am satisfied with how the colours look and stand out. The depth is there, the constant with the skin colour with the blues. I was still experimenting though. So I got some sharpies and colored the next piece with no black lines.
I still like the depth, but I found the colours to bold, and that I had less control on the colours. The sharpies did bleed out from a nice clean line more often than I would have liked. But its still a really good piece with a different style and feel. I added some random lines beside him in this. I think that this is a nice effect. Kind of mysterious. This was the last experiment I drew.

I learned that I prefer to have control over the look and colours. I like having depth to my drawing as well as a nice clean line. Also to have the option to make it either soft of bold, not just bold. Maybe in my next experiment, I will do a Photoshop version of this drawing. Thanks for reading.

Feeling responsible for Silver’s possible injuries, he helped him out and allowed him to stay a few nights when he discovered that he had been followed home by Silver. He now, cannot get rid of Silver and doesn’t have time for Silver’s fun and games.

Silver Jewel Poster

I have created a poster for my short animanic

With this poster, it features the first appearance's of both Oliver and the Pharmacist.
Now everyone can see what they both look like but without their colours. I have done a lot of character development on Silver Jewel, but not so much the other two. But with doing Silver's character development, I now have an art style to draw with, making the drawing/development stages run a lot faster.

I have also done one piece of concept art (in five minutes).

It features Oliver with some basic colours in his bed. Silver is standing beside him holding the medicine that he has to get. I had forgotten that concept art was an important part of my assignment. Due to this misunderstanding, I didn't do this piece of work until the very last minute and rushed the results. Next time, I will make sure I know all the tasks I must do well before it is due. I will also start to draw in my own time, some concept art's (even if not needed or necessary).

FADE IN:
INT. BEDROOM – MORNING

OLIVER, the usually serious, dark haired, 24-year-old, is in bed grabbing tissue after tissue and blowing his nose. SILVER JEWEL, a silver haired, 19-year-old, mute, shy guy, is leaning in the doorway. OLIVER notices SILVER staring at him.

OLIVER
(coughing)
Silver, please, come here.

SILVER waltzes towards OLIVER.

OLIVER
(sniffs)
Can… can you do me a, favor?

SILVER looks excited but OLIVER frowns.

OLIVER
Ummm. Can you go to the pharmacy
and get me some acetaminophen?

SILVER’s expression turns to a frown and he starts to shake his head, nervous.

OLIVER
(coughing)
It would, make me feel better. Do
you want me to, feel better, or not?

SILVER nodes his head slowly as OLIVER blows his nose

OLIVER
Good. Now get going! You better
be back here by lunch, got it?

SILVER nodes again and backs out the door. OLIVER slumps back in his bed.

INT. PHARMACY – NOON

SILVER looks around the store with large eyes and walks to the counter where he meets a bored and tired PHARMACIST.

PHARMACIST
Good morning sir, how may I
help you today?

SILVER takes out his notebook and tries to write ‘acetaminophen’. SILVER lifts the notebook up and shows the PHARMACIST.

PHARMACIST
(clears throat)
Sir, I’m sorry but I do not
know what you're scribbling.

SILVER looks down at his notebook embarrassed.

PHARMACIST
You know, sir, you could tell me
what the word is. I could help
you a lot faster.

SILVER stares for a moment then spins around and stomps down an aisle.

PHARMACIST
(sighs)

The clock behind the PHARMACIST speeds up to show the passing of time as he stands there bored and unmoving

SILVER returns to the counter disappointed and empty handed.

PHARMACIST
(sarcasm)
Did you find what you were looking
for?

SILVER glares and shakes his head.

PHARMACIST
(Annoyed)
Are you going to tell me what you
would like now sir?

An idea springs to mind and SILVER grins as he takes out his phone.

PHONE
Hey Oliver! How do you spell that
medicine you wanted? I don’t know
how… :/

SILVER stares at the screen, but there's no reply.

PHARMACIST
(More annoyed)
Sir. If you’re not going to tell
me what you would like, then
I cannot help you.

Red faced, SILVER nods and turns to the exit. But SILVER stops as he imagines how sick OLIVER is.

OLIVER (V.O.)
(quiet)
Ummm. Can you go to the pharmacy
and get me some acetaminophen?

SILVER takes a step forward but then OLIVER's voice is louder.

OLIVER (V.O.) (CONT’D)
(louder)
It would, make me feel better. Do
you want me to, feel better, or not?

SLIVER slowly turns around and trudges back to the counter. The PHARMACIST looks disappointed.

PHARMACIST
So, what can I do…

SILVER interrupts the PHARMACIST by suddenly pointing at a random medicine in fount of him.

PHARMACIST
Umm… You want Allopurinol?

SILVER suddenly grins wide and points at another medicine.

PHARMACIST
Amitriptyline?

SILVER swiftly points at another over and over.

INT. SILVER JEWEL’S MIND - AFTERNOON

PHARMACIST
Albuterol?
(pause)
Azithromycin?
(pause)
Atorvastatin?

SILVER being bombarded by all these words gets dizzy as he imagines medicines, the words of the medicines, and the PHARMACIST’s head flying past him.

PHARMACIST
(distant, fuzzy)
Alprazolam? Amlodipine?
Amiodarone? Allopurinol?
Amoxicillin? Aspirin?
Atenolol?

SILVER is shacking with frustrated and scowls at the PHARMACIST.

Oh ya. You can’t speak. It’s

Relief floods SILVER and he shoves the phone in PHARMACIST’s face.

PHARMACIST
Ohhhh. You wanted acetaminophen?

SILVER nods his head frantically. The PHARMACIST takes some acetaminophen off the shelf, scans it, bags it, and hands it over.

SILVER leaves the store as quick as he can

INT. BEDROOM - AFTERNOON

OLIVER is still in bed as SILVER walks in.

OLIVER
(moans)
About time.

SILVER abruptly launches the acetaminophen at OLIVER’s face and stomps off.

OLIVER is interrupted by his phone receiving a message.

PHONE
Oh ya. You can’t speak. It’s

SILVER’s eyes get wider as everything around him seems distant and darken. OLIVER’s voice is distant as everything becomes more intense for SILVER along with the music getting louder.

OLIVER
(voice over)
SILVER? Hey SILVER? SILVER!?

Without notice, the intensity disappears and OLIVER’s voice becomes clear. SILVER still standing still.

OLIVER
SILVER?

SILVER abruptly launches the acetaminophen at OLIVER’s face but never shows impact.
